I can’t keep up with these abbreviations. What happened to spelling out what you want to say? Wait, let me back up. What happened to calling to say what you want to say? Wait, let me back up again. What happened to passing notes back and forth in class? From the time they’re babies, Kids These Days are speaking in languages I don’t understand and it only gets worse as they get older. Life is moving fast and they’re moving faster.
Speaking of moving fast, try putting sunscreen on a toddler. OMG. Just the thought of it stresses me out. Thank goodness for sun protective clothing. Our rash guards have a UPF 50+ protection rating which blocks 98% of the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. Those are acronyms we all understand. Even when wearing sun protective clothing, please lather up your kids. Sunburnt cheeks are not a good ending to a day in the sun IYKWIM (If you know what I mean).
If You’re Gonna Talk the Talk…
When you go to the beach or pool with your children, set a good example for them. Put sunscreen on yourself first. Better yet, have them put it on you! Could be messy, but I’m all for teaching moments. Lather them up even before they put on their Kids These Days swimsuits: that way, they can start enjoying the sunshine as soon as you get to your destination.
If all else fails and they’re still fussing and complaining that they must wear sunscreen, answer with this Mommalie.
