I am the baby of the family and not only the youngest in my immediate family but the youngest of all the cousins. There is a 25-year age difference between my oldest cousin and myself. Because of the huge age gap, my grandparents on both sides passed away before I was born. From the stories my parents, sisters and cousins told me, I really missed out.
In Arabic, grandmother is Sitti and grandfather is Gido. My older sister is a Sitti. She has 9 grandchildren and those are some lucky kids. She spoils them with presents and goodies, but most of all, she spoils them with love. I’ve never seen anything like it. She has a very demanding job with very little free time, but she will fill every spare moment with her grandkids. When they visit, they all climb into bed with her and have a scary movie watching marathon. For example, she loves “Jaws”. I can’t imagine how many times she’s seen the original, because let’s face it, that was the only good one. Her grandchildren range from age 4 to 14. Jaws is great for a 14-year-old, but scares the bejesus out of a 4-year-old. I think my sister does it on purpose so the little ones will snuggle with her even more and the older kids will think she’s cool! They already adore her, so this is just the icing on the cake.
Grandparents These Days Love to do the Spoiling
Some of our best customers are grandparents. KTD Swimwear makes terrific gifts for birthdays, holidays or for just spoiling! On one occasion when we had a booth at a festival, a granddad came inside the tent. He looked at everything over and over again and chatted up a storm. He gushed about his granddaughters and how he needed to make sure he would buy the perfect sizes and designs for them. This went on for probably 45 minutes and when he couldn’t make a decision, he finally bought one of everything for them!
At Kids These Days, we try to appeal to everyone – parents, grandparents and of course, the kids who wear our suits. When thinking about all the wonderful and loving grandparents there are, this Mommalie or GrandMommalie comes to mind!
“If I had known grandkids were so much fun, I would have had them first.”
